THE PASSING OF JOHN.

It is with great sadness to inform you that John passed away at 09.55 on Wednesday 9th July 2014. He was 60 years old. As many of you know, he had been suffering from liver cancer for many years and bravely fought the disease until the very end. We are relieved that his passing was peaceful and painless. John was a loving husband, inspirational father, doting grandfather and gifted songwriter. His musical career started from a very young age and he wanted more than anything for people to listen and enjoy his music. He passed away knowing he achieved his ambition. If it were possible, we know John would have liked to have thanked each and every fan of The Outfield personally. He admired and respected the emails from thousands of loyal followers who commented on his music and enquired about his health. This alone, gave him motivation to battle through the sometimes dark days.

We would like to thank you for 'Your Love' and the continued support you have given John throughout his career. He loved making music and playing his guitar. He found pleasure knowing that his music made people happy and bought them fond memories. He worked hard with many days in pain to finish the Replay album. There were times when he could barely pick up his guitar, but he refused to give up knowing he would disappoint fans. The hardest day for John was when he put his guitar in its case announcing his hands could no longer play.

During the last months of his life, John, Tony and Alan wrote new material. What the future holds for this is unclear at the time of writing.
There is so much more we could say, but for now, we would like to grieve the loss of John.

Songs like this made it difficult for Columbia to categorize the band as rock or pop, but as we all know the Outfield found their own way to cut a path through musical genres and create songs that just made you feel good, regardless of where it fit!

The Outfield continue to climb the FMQB A/C top 40 chart with their new radio hit 'California Sun'. The band jumped five spots this week from #27 to #22. The momentum looks like it will continue as 'California Sun' is still armed with a bullet and picking up new stations on a weekly basis.

SPRIGHTLY SOUND OF "CALIFORNIA SUN' CLIMBS TO #27

If you were to overlook The Outfield's most recent material taken from their brand new album, Replay, you would be missing out on material just as strong as any track from 1989's Voices of Babylon.

The band's new single, 'California Sun', has climbed steadily up the A/C radio chart this week to #27.

'California Sun' picks up where Voices of Babylon left off, layered production and pristine performances. What's also immediately apparent is the approachable radio sound that lifted the band through their first three album releases.

'California Sun' is a distinctive return to what radio used to be. It's a song marked by complex arrangements with open spaces that is carried by the main melody line that has a bounce to its gait. John Spinks is at the top of his game as he widely adheres to his own song writing brilliance.

The sound is confident and markedly manifest itself in the lead vocals of Tony Lewis and the splendid backbeat of Alan Jackman's artful drumming. With its jangling guitar chorus and soaring vocal harmonies, 'California Sun' is concise as it is immediate.

In simple terms, John Spinks, Tony Lewis and Alan Jackman have re-discovered their chemistry and made a very specific sounding album that can only be identified as The Outfield, entirely successfully.

'CALIFORNIA SUN' HITS A/C TOP 40

The Outfield have scored their first industry standard Top 40 hit from their new album Replay this week on the Adult Contemporary charts. 'California Sun', the lead single from Replay, is sitting at #34 this week and looks to be climbing. Earlier this year, 'California Sun' was a regional #1 radio hit in conjunction with iTunes radio. In other news, the band have confirmed they are getting closer to live rehearsals but have not committed to any tour dates as of yet.

The Outfield’s much anticipated new album, ‘Replay’, is now complete. John Spinks, Tony Lewis and Alan Jackman finished production on the album at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. The new album will feature 12 new tracks written by John Spinks. ‘Replay’ is scheduled for a tentative July release date (subject to change). The early reviews of ‘Replay’ by industry sources have praised the band for their musical focus and consistency.

The Outfield Announce New Album Title

British power trio The Outfield, have confirmed the band’s newest studio album will be called ‘Replay’.

The record will be released this summer (2011) on a new label that will be announced at a later date.

The recording sessions have found all original members John Spinks, Tony Lewis and Alan Jackman, edged further into more sophisticated textures and skillful grooves. The Outfield has been previewing several new songs from ‘Replay’ including the radio ready ‘California Sun’, which reached #1 for three weeks as a limited radio release.

The end result has said to hear the band at their most focused and musically enduring while encompassing the essential foundation of melodic musicianship.
